Headshot of Steve O’Brien

Steve O’Brien

Vice President of Innovation

Stephen O’Brien brings a rich history of innovation and more than 40 years of experience in thermal heat transfer and HVAC product design to RedDOT’s senior leadership team.

Stephen started his career with General Motors Holden (GMH) as a junior engineer, working in multiple areas of vehicle development and testing in Australia before transitioning to HVAC, working closely with Harrison Radiator (Delphi). Following GMH, Stephen served as a director of engineering and board member at Air International Inc., where he developed the first-ever Australian-designed-and-manufactured HVAC for GM Australia. He also led HVAC development for other vehicle manufacturers, helping grow Air International to its position as the largest manufacturer in Australia.

Stephen then brought his talents to Texas, leading efforts to scale Air International’s footprint in North America. His extensive HVAC experience within the automotive industry led to developing low-noise and efficient condenser and radiator cooling fans using forward and reverse skewed fan blades—which became the standard for many vehicles around the world. He holds more than 30 patents both domestically and internationally that are used across HVAC and engine cooling systems, many of which are still on the road today.

His experience working with OEM vehicle companies includes Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda, Kawasaki and Polaris—as well as other U.S. and Asian manufacturers, transforming multiple companies he owned into major global suppliers. Those same electric cooling fan assemblies and heat transfer technologies grew beyond automotive HVAC systems and into ATV and motorcycle markets. He also designed and manufactured parts that were used by NASA on the space shuttle.

Most recently, Stephen founded International Climate Systems (ICS), the dominant supplier to OEM powersports manufacturers for heating and cooling systems, which became part of the RedDOT global network in 2026.

Stephen’s passion for innovation and technology marks a valuable addition to Red Dot’s “REDy for Anything” philosophy.
